Thayer,MO. Oregon County Country Music Theatre Scholarship
A total of $1,000 in scholarships will be awarded to students through the Oregon County Country Music Theatre Scholarship fund for the Fall 2014 Semester. The first scholarship awarded from this fund opportunity was created from the ashes of the Oregon County Country Music Theatre which burned on November 2, 2013. The Theatre was the love and creation of Gene and Peggy Boren to attract visitors and talented musicians to this area and to support education and artists in training. The building was formerly the Assembly of God Church in Thayer, MO.
The new focus will be to enhancing education by the support of students attending vocational schools by awarding scholarships, apprenticeships and sponsorships. The music from the theatre will be virtual, without building boundaries, and continue to be made for the benefit of students and education. Both education and music, once embedded, will live forever.
To qualify for the scholarship, students must be a high school graduate or have obtained a GED, but not necessarily a recent graduate. The student must reside in Oregon County for at least 5 non-continuous years. The student must have an admission acceptance from a vocational school within a 100 mile radius of Oregon County. The scholarship funds will assist in the transportation of students to those schools.
The student must submit a 300 word essay on their goals for receiving their education, what receiving the scholarship will mean, and a resume on what they have accomplished (work, outside, and volunteer activities).
Funding for the Boren Center (Oregon County Country Music Theatre) Scholarship is generated through fundraisers, concerts, and donations. Scholarships are given in varying amounts depending on full-time or part-time enrollment status.
